“There are too many standout moments in Company to list”
PETER KESSLER, MBE, BAFTA AWARD-WINNING PRODUCER

On his 35th birthday, Bobby needs things to change.

Across a series of comic vignettes and timeless songs, Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s kaleidoscopic musical asks whether we should grow up, give in, and learn to accept the joys and compromises of living with others.

REVIEWS

"Company is an outstanding production … What makes it really soar is its affinity with Sondheim’s unique character … Robey teases out the pain and pleasure of every scene. When Bobby takes air stewardess April back to his apartment, her comments on his interior decoration are hilariously shallow and vacuous, but here also betray a sense of lost potential and innocence that lift her above being a mere figure of fun. That’s the extra dimension that both defines Sondheim and distinguishes this production." PETER KESSLER, DAILY INFO

"Bobby's perma-youth is neatly encapsulated in the soft play set, brightly coloured and foam padded, and the slide which connects the high walkway with the stage. It works really well." JEN PAWSEY, DAILY INFO

"You leave the theatre feeling as if your mood has been lifted dramatically. Stunning." ★★★★ MY VIEW FROM THE STALLS

"Fennec Fox Productions’ take—exciting and bright, with a terrific cast and production— is the most fun you will have while thinking about the loneliness that seems intrinsic to human relationships." THE OXFORD BLUE

"…characters enter the main stage area via a brightly-coloured slide. The pair of swings, descending from the ceiling, are an ingenious conceit, transforming seamlessly from playground swings into overhead handrails on the subway, before being used as the vehicle by which Bobby is literally pulled back and forth by his friends" ★★★★ CHERWELL

“Robey has a talent for bringing out the best in his casts”
DAILY INFO

On the edge of what’s left of a forest, Sonya is waiting for her life to start. Her Uncle Johnny is waiting for his life to end.

In the meantime, they work and work and work. What else can they do?

Performed in Robert Icke’s lucid, luminous translation, Anton Chekhov’s tragicomic drama asks what happens to us as the environment breaks down around us.

REVIEWS

"A wonderfully expressionistic response to Chekhov’s abiding theme: that Russia is at the end of an era, the ruling classes are on the verge of destruction, and their world is about to vanish forever" DAILY INFO

"The cohesion and chemistry of this ensemble is palpable … the explosion of John's character in the third act is delivered with extraordinary force, truth and energy, and by its conclusion we are crying alongside him. I am honestly blown away" 9/10 A ROOM WITH A VIEW

"I couldn’t stop thinking about this production after seeing it … the climax of John’s attempted shooting of Alexander is incredible: the leaves falling from the ‘canopy’ upon the gunshot was exceptional. Spooner’s singing over this moment is completely harrowing, verging on the absurd, as the play has been marvellously oscillating between" THE LAST ACT CRITIC

MICHAEL PILCH STUDIO, OXFORD, JUNE 2025

The Writer

WRITER ELLA HICKSON

“Utterly absorbing”
THE OXFORD BLUE

Ella Hickson’s shocking metatheatrical thriller asks how to stay afloat in the rising tide of the theatre industry. Across five surprising, slippery-structured acts, the play interrogates how relationships – artistic, romantic and those murkily in between – are warped by patriarchy, power and money.

REVIEWS

"This is student theatre at its finest … Robey has fashioned a perfect, intricate puzzle out of Hickson’s script" DAILY INFO

"There's a supreme level of confidence to every aspect of this production … the most challenging, vivid, extraordinary production I’ve witnessed this year" THE OXFORD BLUE
